RE: Fuel Rants & Raves - Post 'Em Here!

So we need to stop complaining about it, pointing fingers and just suck it up and get used to living a bit lower standard of living!
Wow...
Nope, I'm not ready to do this just yet. I still believe that we can drill our way out of this. Or at least to some lower level. Yea go after the oil, put up a couple more refineries and this will help us bridge the gap. I know... crazy talk! ;-)
Have fun!

Tough choice... I personally like Hillman Ferry better than the others but they are all nice. You are going to find other folks that like each of these the best! Have fun!

RE: Firewood

Does anyone know if there is a website that tells you what states allow firewood in from other states.
I plan on hitting Iowa, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montanna and North Dakota, on a trip next week and trying to decide to take wood with me or not.
You can see all of the states info here:

Fee increase for Kentucky State Parks

Rced this message this morning from the ReserveAmerica.com folks.
Dear Kentucky State Parks Customer
This email is to inform you of a change at Kentucky State Parks.
Camping throughout our State parks has remained a favorite past time for generations. We hope that you will find the campgrounds as well as attention to your needs, to be to your full satisfaction.
Over the course of time the costs associated with operating our campgrounds as well as other facilities in the State Park System has steadily increased. While we have made every attempt to absorb these operational costs in our budget, we have reached a point where some expenses unfortunately must be passed along to our campers.
We wish to inform you that beginning with all campground reservations made as of August 1st, 2008, the $7.50 reservation fee charged to Parks will be passed along to our campers. Per night campsite fees will remain the same. This will not affect reservations made prior to August 1st, nor will first come/first serve camping be affected. Up until now, Kentucky was one of only a handful of states still absorbing this fee. We regret the increased costs to you the consumer, however we trust that you find camping at our Parks still serves as a great value. Thank you for your patronage and we look forward to accommodating your needs in the future.
Should you have any questions please contact Sam Devine, Director of Customer Service, at sam.devine@ky.gov.
This email was sent to you as you had previously made a reservation for a Kentucky State Park. RE: Taking firewood in Excursion?

C'mon, help out a fellow American and buy wood for sale by the campground.
Poor guy sweating all day sawing and stacking that wood and only to sell it for five bucks a wheelbarrow load and you want to bring your own?
This should get a few snapperheads going. LOL http://images.ugoto.com/emoticons/whip.gif
LOL... if I could buy firewood for $5 a wheelbarrow load, I would never bring my own again! :)
In the meanwhile... sometimes I just load some in the back of the burb or sometimes set a tote or two of wood inside the door of the trailer.

Hard to go wrong with a little extra insurance. I use the same product myself.

After a similar experience... I use this same product. This is a sure fix.

RE: State Park Camping Fees

Indiana
Electric = $25 weekends / $28 Holidays
Full Hookup = $34 weekends / $38 Holidays
I find myself spending more time on Federal properties now. I still camp in Indiana SP's but not as often. The additional fee for holidays really bothers me. I have been paying taxes in Indiana forever and to pay extra just because its a holiday seems wrong to me.
Have fun!

RE: What would you do?

I'd walk over and have a polite conversation with them. Something along the lines of "I see you folks have several boats with you... we brought ours also and are going to need to be able to squeeze is in here somehow. Could you folks keep me a space available?".
If simple reason didnt work I might then ask the staff to help me.
Hope it works out for you!

RE: Batt. life while dry camping w/CPAP machine?

I'm not even close to a electricity / electronics expert however can share my personal experience. I found that trying to run my CPAP off of an inverter did tend to drain my dual six volt batteries pretty quickly. However, when I switched over to running it directly from 12 volts my battery life (between charges) improved significantly. Now days I carry a single Honda 2000 for charging batteries and it will actually run everything but the a/c. As long as the nights are not too hot, I don't use the a/c anyway. I do have some 12 volt fans to help it feel cooler.
Have fun!

RE: Central Indiana Lake front Sites

Well... since you asked. :) Here is a hidden gem. You can actually fish about twenty fee from your camper on the lake side sites. These normally have been non-electric sites, but they added electric this year.
This place is about 110 miles from you.

RE: Golden Age/Golden Access State Park Acceptance

Last year the host at Reelfoot Lake State Park in TN asked me if I had one, then gave me a discount. I don't know if all TN State Parks honor the pass or not.

Does Paintsville Lake have a nicer campground than Jenny Wiley SRP? I see that Paintsville has full hookup sites.

RE: Help! Eastern Kentucky Experts!

Hi folks!
Thank you for all of the great suggestions.
Right now, I'm looking at going to Jenny Wiley SRP for a few days then on down to Breaks Interstate Park.
Anyone ever drive that fifty or so miles between Prestonsburg and Elkhorn City??? How are these roads for RV travel? It looks a little rough on the map!
ALSO... anyone know the Jenny Wiley SRP Campground? Looks like a lot of sites available for reservation right now. Can anyone recommend some favorite sites? Big, Flat & Shady are some of my favorites!
Thanx!

Sure sorry to hear that! Is Pismo a long trip?
I'm lucky that we were only planning to go about an hour away anyway, so the fuel cost won't make a lot of difference for us.
